Dorathea Beatty Memorial Scholarship

Dorathea Beatty graduated from NTC’s Associate Degree Nursing Program in 1973. As a registered nurse, she worked at the former Wausau Hospital North and the Wausau Medical Center until her retirement in 1989. The Dorathea Beatty Memorial Scholarship is given each year to a student in the nursing program. An article in the Wausau Daily Herald, from 1973, celebrated Dorathea as NTC’s first grandmother graduate from the Nursing program. According to her daughter, Bonnie, “Our mother, Dorathea, decided she wanted to become a nurse when she was eight years old. She had to wait a lot of years before she could attend post-secondary school, and she was 48 when she graduated from the NTC Nursing Program. She wanted to help other returning adult students reach their goals to graduate from the nursing program.”
